Dietitians of Canada's Cookspiration - www.cookspiration.com
I love this website because it has so many different recipes that you can filter in the “Explore by Genre” feature. You can filter recipes using tags like “egg free”, “kid friendly”, “fish and seafood”, “lunches”, “vegan” and “vegetarian main courses.” And they add new recipes every year, especially around Nutrition Month (every March!).
Alberta Pulse Growers - www.albertapulse.com/recipe
Looking for gluten-free recipes? Trying to eat more plant-based? This website is fantastic for exploring recipes outside of the usual chilis and stews. Pulses (aka beans, lentils, chickpeas and peas) are a great source of protein and fibre, so great for helping you manage constipation and help you feel fuller for longer. The website is great for teaching you how to choose and prepare dry pulses (less expensive than meat and just as good of a source of protein) and canned pulses.
I’ve tried their Black Bean Brownies, Critter Fritters made out of green peas, Lil’ Apple Bites energy balls, and Bean and Berry Power Smoothies - just to name a few, and they have been great! I love how creative and easy they are to make, and I can get extra fibre and protein in my diet. My only caution with eating pulses is “ease into it” by eating small portions at a time until your gastrointestinal tract gets use to all the goodness. Or you might experience more gas and bloating until your body acclimates to the increase in soluble fibre.
Half Your Plate - www.halfyourplate.ca/recipes
Pretty much everyone could eat more vegetables and fruits, but how do we choose, prepare, and cook fiddleheads, fennel, rhubarb, and bokchoy? Half Your Plate is a great resource to answer these questions, and they have some tasty recipes to boot! Stop wasting the stems of your broccoli with this featured Head-to-Toe Broccoli soup, or get more vitamin A in with some tasty bruschetta in this Cherry Tomato Bruschetta recipe (To-MAY-toe,To-MA-toe, Bru-SKET-ta, Bru-SHET-ta. It all tastes good to me however you pronounce it).
*Sally has no conflicting interests for showcasing these websites. No kickbacks, no financial gains…though a thank you would be nice - just kidding. Just keep adding healthy and tasty recipes we can all try to your websites. ;)
